International Women's Day 2021

International Women's Day 2021

At Jo Mercer we’re dedicated to empowering women.
Last year we quoted you, our inspiring community, on what international women’s day means to you.

This year we asked people in our circle of influence 3 questions.

What does international women’s day mean to you?
How are you ‘Choosing To Challenge’ in your life?
What’s your advice for the next generation?

What does international women’s day mean to you?

For me it means celebrating women empowerment and freedoms. We as women are strong and powerful but still have a level of gender bias and obstacles to overcome! We are lucky here in Australia but we must keep fighting for all the other women around the world who might not be as lucky.

How are you ‘Choosing To Challenge’ in your life?

I ‘Chose To Challenge’ by being a woman who supports, encourages and celebrates other women’s achievements. I believe we are stronger together than apart.

What’s your advice for the next generation?

I believe it’s so important to learn from the past. We must acknowledge how far we have come and understand there have been women and men long before us fighting for the rights and freedoms we enjoy today. Let’s keep moving forward and encourage more positive changes.

What does international women’s day mean to you?

It’s a day to highlight inclusivity, celebrate diversity and keep the important conversation of equality front and centre.

How are you ‘Choosing To Challenge’ in your life?

I choose to challenge by living with a whole heart. This means different things in different spaces, but facilitating change begins with authenticity and I try to live this every day.

What’s your advice for the next generation?

Be brave, and kind. There are many challenges and exciting opportunities ahead, and the best way I know to meet either of those things is with an open heart.

What does international women’s day mean to you?

This day is a celebration of women, but also a day to promote women’s rights and equality. It reminds me to support and empower women in my life and to also be a part of the change.

How are you ‘Choosing To Challenge’ in your life?

I’m choosing to challenge myself with mindfulness. Im challenging myself to mediate every morning, spend less time on my phone and be more present.

What’s your advice for the next generation?

My advice is to embrace your perfect and imperfect self.

I grew up in an era where self love was thought to be vain, and beauty standards were set by the media. You are an individual- you don’t belong in a category. There is only one of you, and the sooner you learn to love that person, the happier you will be.

Don’t feel pressured to fit in or look a certain way. Be true to yourself and you will always shine bright!

What does international women’s day mean to you?

It's an opportunity to reflect and recognise not only the contribution that women make across all facets of life, but also how far we have got to go before we achieve true equality.

How are you ‘Choosing To Challenge’ in your life?

“I choose to challenge" the stereotypical beliefs and behaviours placed on individuals in society or the workplace.

What’s your advice for the next generation?

As a father of an 18-year-old daughter, who is the next generation, my advice has always been simple - "If you really want something, go and get it and don't take no for answer"

What does international women’s day mean to you?

It is a reminder of the power we have, to lift one another up and to celebrate all women.

How are you ‘Choosing To Challenge’ in your life?

By believing that beauty has no boundaries I educate and empower babes to love themselves.

What’s your advice for the next generation?

Do everything With Love.

What does international women’s day mean to you?

To me it means levelling out the playing field and empowering women to shine in the spotlight.

How are you ‘Choosing To Challenge’ in your life?

Encouraging women who are stepping outside the “traditional” comfort zone to challenge that inner negative, critical voice.
Pushing myself and others to always strive for bigger and better and not being afraid to step outside of our “safe place”

What’s your advice for the next generation?

Power has no gender.

What does international women’s day mean to you?

It’s a day to celebrate and acknowledge the many achievements of women around the globe who have made a difference in the areas of social, economic, cultural and political areas, which have paved the way for women of today and for our next generation.

How are you ‘Choosing To Challenge’ in your life?
